Declutter
Moving is an excellent time to declutter your home. A good rule to follow is if you can’t remember the last time you used the item, you most likely don’t need to keep it. This can include things like damaged or broken items, newspapers, magazines, documents, expired medications or foodstuff. As for clothing, if you haven’t worn an item in a year, bin it or give it to charity.
Essential Items
Pack a box of things you’ll need when you first get to your new home. It should include things like a kettle, coffee, water, toiletries, toilet paper, cups, snacks, phone chargers, and basic kitchenware.
Give Yourself Time
Always give yourself plenty of time to pack your valuable items. You may want to start packing things you don’t need every day in advance of moving day and stay consistent. This will leave you less to pack at the last minute, and you’ll have plenty of time to get your packing done.
Label Your Boxes
You want to label all of your boxes with the room the items belong in. It will save you a lot of time when it’s time to unpack, and it’ll save the moving team’s time because they’ll know where they should place your items.
Pack With Care
Before you move, invest in high-quality packing materials. Anything fragile needs extra care to ensure it’ll make it through the move. Give china, glass, pottery, crystal, and glass photo frames extra padding and layering. It also helps to clearly mark the boxes as “FRAGILE.”
